Thoroughly Modern Millie
Since we are about to enter the 2020’s, I figured I should share some videos and pictures from Stage Right Performing Arts’ production of Thoroughly Modern Millie which takes place in the 1920’s. Last summer I was so grateful to play the part of Millie in this show. Millie Dillmount is a spunky gal from Kansas who makes her way to New York City to find her way in the world. I really related to this character and it was such an honor to work with Darrington Clark who was the director. Performing in Thoroughly Modern Millie was one of my highlights of 2019, and I am proud to share with you excerpts from this production. I am including a short plot summery in case you are not familiar with the story.
Plot Summary
Millie Dillmount, a feisty young girl from Salina, Kansas, arrives in New York eager to experience the roaring Twenties. She bobs her hair, shortens her hemline, and thinks that the way to success in to marry her boss. Along the way she meets Jimmy, a paper clip salesman who she likes, but does not think is husband material. Millie makes friends with Miss Dorothy Brown who is an old-fashioned girl from a seemly privileged background. The two girls live in the Priscilla Hotel for Single Young Ladies run by Mrs. Meers. Millie gets a job at the Sincere Trust Insurance Company and is determined to marry her boss, Trevor Graydon. Through Jimmy, Millie meets the wealthy Muzzy Van Hosmere who tries to convince Millie to marry for love. Meanwhile, Dorothy has gone missing and with the help of Graydon, Jimmy and Millie uncover a scandal of human trafficking involving Mrs. Meers and the hotel and save Dorothy. Through all of twists and turns of events, Millie finally realizes that it is love that brings her happiness.
